Park design offers unique
challenges. Municipalities are usually limited by tight budgets, yet have a desire
to serve the public to the greatest extent possible. Paragon works
hard to design park features and facilities that will be the most cost
effective, be aesthetically pleasing and provide recreational
experiences for the greatest demographic cross section. We have
designed practically every type of park, including skate parks and
athletic facilities. |

Designed trails, parking facilities, site for a building, and a ski
hill. The key challenge here was to fit all the desired features
into a limited area. |

Paragon Associates
worked with the Village of Holmen to arrive at a design that reflected
the recreational needs of the community. Key emphasis was given to
providing athletic facilities within the park as well as providing a
unique hiking experience, while still accommodating Americans
with Disability Act (ADA) Design Standards. Paragon completed master planning
and construction drawings for the new 40-acre park, which included three
softball fields, playground space, paved and unpaved hiking trails, an
outdoor hockey rink, sledding hill, and four tennis courts.
Design issues included:
-
Providing pedestrian connections
throughout the park
-
Vehicular access requirements
-
Safety and security issues
-
Expanding recreational opportunities
-
Developing public greenspace parks.
-
Protecting existing resources.
